Outdoor Maths Bags out for summer!
Early on in the project we planned to distribute a leaflet to all the children participating in Break 3 before the summer holidays.
Then at some point one of us thought we could something a bit more ambitious.
This resulted in 1,000 Break 3 Outdoor Maths bags which went round Rook Lane Chapel 3 times (suitably). They took days to stuff, with friends and partners roped in to help, and disappeared out to children overnight. Which is great to see, since I sometimes think we are just trotting out made up figures of how many people we are working with.
The bags are designed for Year 3 and 4; creative outdoor maths activities to hopefully enjoy over the summer holidays.
Contents include:
Natural Maths (thanks to Juliet Robertson and her brilliant Creative Star Learning blog for inspiration on this
Ancient Maths (inspired by our collaboration with Devizes Museum in our Heritage Lottery Funded project ‘Measuring the Land’)
Alien Maths (inspired by crop circle geometry)
Spymaths (maths challenges and photography)
We’ve had great fun designing and making them (fantastic work from Jade).
We hope they will continue the message about how fun and creative maths can be, and won’t over stretch the parents…

There is an official statement of the farmer that the huge beautiful 12 petaled (200 feet wide) flower crop circle at Juggler’s Lane, near Yatesbury, Wiltshire, UK. that was reported on 17th July 2012 was constructed by the children students of “Measuring the Land Youth Project” with the help of Jo Plimmer and the teachers. That is amazing!!
Do you have pictures of students creating the crop circle? at Juggler’s Lane, near Yatesbury, Wiltshire on 16th or 17th July 2012
Please could you be kind to post the children making crop circles so that we can share them
Very inspiring !!
Best Wishes
